The St. Lawrence Acoustic Stage will welcome acclaimed vocalist and songwriter Ndidi O to Morrisburg’s Upper Canada Playhouse March 7 at 7 p.m., joined by special guest and local musician Katie Ditschun.
Born to a Nigerian father and German mother and raised in British Columbia, Ndidi Onukwulu draws on a globally rooted sense of identity. Her musical path has taken her from New York’s open-mic circuit to Toronto’s blues and folk scene, and across stages throughout Europe before returning to Canada’s West Coast. She is a two-time JUNO nominee, a former Western Canadian Music Awards Blues Artist of the Year, and is currently up for multiple Canadian Blues Music Awards, including Blues Song of the Year and Female Vocalist of the Year.
Her forthcoming album, It’s About Time (March 2026), marks a new creative chapter. Recorded in Cork with Irish songwriter Mick Flannery and co-produced by Steve Dawson, the project blends alt-country swing, roots influences, and Irish traditional elements. Its themes explore aging, movement, and letting go, weaving Ndidi’s powerful storytelling through both original compositions and refreshed interpretations of Irish musical heritage.
Known for raw, emotionally honest performances, Ndidi’s live shows unite blues, folk, rock, and soul, carried by her commanding voice, onstage presence, and deeply personal narratives.
Opening the evening is Alexandria’s Katie Ditschun, a Berklee College of Music graduate whose work spans jazz, folk, pop, and adult contemporary styles. Her warm vocals and thoughtful songwriting have earned award nominations and praise, including Jazz FM’s Raina Hersh describing her music as “full of lyrical substance and warmth.” Ditschun’s recent projects continue to explore themes of resilience and personal growth through intimate, piano-driven arrangements.
