Cornwall’s own Paul DesLauriers has been nominated for Blues Guitarist of the Year at the inaugural Canadian Blues Music Awards March 30 at Toronto’s Phoenix Concert Theatre. The nomination recognizes his work on Our Time To Ride as part of the Chambers DesLauriers duo with U.S. blues vocalist Annika Chambers. DesLauriers, a celebrated guitarist known for his electrifying blues-rock style, is no stranger to national acclaim. He previously won multiple Maple Blues Awards, including Guitar Player of the Year and Entertainer of the Year as frontman with the Paul DesLauriers Band. He was also inducted to Cornwall’s Arts Hall of Fame. “I’m feeling thankful, humbled, and excited all at once,” DesLauriers shared on social media, also celebrating bandmate Sly Coulombe’s nomination for Drummer of the Year. “We’re truly honoured to be recognized alongside so many of our talented Canadian friends and peers,” he added.
The new awards, replacing the Maple Blues Awards, use jury panels of industry experts rather than public voting. DesLauriers, who last performed in Cornwall in October with Chambers DesLauriers, once again finds himself in the national spotlight.
