The Township of South Stormont is donating land in Long Sault to Habitat for Humanity, supporting the construction of two semi-detached homes that will house four local families. The donation includes a waiver of development fees and involves surplus land on Bethune Avenue, currently zoned as Open Space.
“This will be the third Habitat for Humanity development in South Stormont,” said Mayor Bryan McGillis. “We are thrilled to partner with them once again to provide a hand up to deserving families in our community.” The parcels are ideally located near parks, shops, and services. A zoning by-law amendment will be completed this spring to accommodate the build, with construction anticipated in 2027. “This donation and continued support from South Stormont Council and staff is truly appreciated,” said Leigh Taggart, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity Cornwall & The Counties. “This investment will help four local families build lasting stability while contributing to a stronger, more resilient community.”
