Five companies have qualified to bid on the expansion of the Alexandria sewage lagoon. The five contractors chosen to bid on the project are Dalcon Construction Ltd., Doran Contractors Limited, Louis Bray Construction, Peak Construction Group Ltd., and Thomas Fuller Construction. North Glengarry Township staff hope to award the contract by the end of February or early March. The companies were selected after the township and EVB Engineering issued a prequalification document for firms who wanted to submit tenders on the job.
The expanded lagoon will permit over 1,000 new homes to be built, welcoming new residents and long-awaited growth to the municipality. While a competitive price is 80 per cent of the qualifying bid, contractors that score well and command the best understanding of the project, could sway the decision in their favour.
The township has received the approval of a $28,543,000 grant from the Ontario government that will cover 73 per cent of the bill.
