Debbie Fortier, Executive Director of Maison Baldwin House, was honoured with the 2026 “She Inspires Award” during the International Women’s Day High Tea in Cornwall. The award, presented by the Cornwall and Area Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the Cornwall SDG Business Enterprise Centre, recognizes women who demonstrate leadership, resilience, compassion, and a lasting impact within the community. Martha Rochon, Executive Director of the Eastern Ontario Training Board, spoke about Fortier’s commitment to supporting women and children facing violence and exploitation. “This year many extraordinary women were nominated. But today’s recipient is someone whose life’s work has quite literally meant safety, dignity, and hope for thousands of women and children.”
Fortier has dedicated more than 44 years to Maison Baldwin House, a shelter and support centre for women and children experiencing domestic violence.
