The Township of South Stormont’s Chief Administrative Officer, David Barrick, is leaving the role after less than five months.
In a brief statement released March 24, Mayor Bryan McGillis confirmed the departure, writing that Council “would like to thank David for his work in expanding the Township’s communications platform and strengthening community engagement,” while also noting contributions to “a reduced 2026 budget request and the realization of insurance-related savings.”
No reason for the departure was provided, and the Township indicated it would offer no further comment.
Barrick had only recently taken on the position. Announced in October 2025 following a third-party executive search, he formally assumed the CAO role on January 1, 2026, after joining the Township as Deputy CAO in November to support the transition from retiring CAO Debi Lucas.
At the time of his appointment, McGillis described Barrick as a strong addition to the municipality, citing his “track record in administrative leadership” and experience as both a senior municipal executive and elected official.
Barrick brought an extensive resume to the role. Prior to joining South Stormont, he served as CAO for the Municipality of Thames Centre and previously held the same position with the City of Brampton, where he oversaw a large municipal workforce and significant operating budget. His career also includes leadership roles with the Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority and service as a regional councillor and deputy mayor in Port Colborne.
Barrick’s departure comes shortly after the completion of the 2026 budget process and early-term priorities he was hired to help guide. The Township has not yet announced interim leadership or next steps for filling the CAO position.
