The average North Glengarry home owner will pay about $143 more in property taxes this year, according to figures presented by Treasurer Zoe Bougie at a recent meeting.
Council had earlier approved a 4.75 per cent increase for the municipal portion of the tax rate. The United
Counties of Stormont-Dundas-Glengarry had an overall increase of 4.48 per cent while education rates have remained unchanged. The average assessed value for a residence in North Glengarry is $248,670 which would result in an increase of just over $143 in taxes annually.
Property assessments have been frozen in Ontario and will continue to be based on 2016 values. Forty-six per cent of the taxes will be sent to the United Counties, the education portion sent to the province is 14 per cent and the remaining 40 per cent is for North Glengarry Township.
Water and sewer rates will be increased by 2 per cent while increases in fees will remain under the 2 per cent threshold.
The 2026 operating and capital budgets require $7,536,593 in tax dollars. The counties will receive $8,626,017.31 and schools $2,636,747.98. The education tax rates have remained unchanged since 2022.
