Duncor Enterprises, of Barrie, has been awarded by the united counties of Stormont-Dundas-Glengarry a contract of $381,079 to micro-surface a series of county roads this year.
The Duncor tender, as well as Miller Paving’s bid of $396,351, came in under the budget of $610,000.
Dana Grant, Manager of Capital Works, Roads, suggested that an additional $113,000 be approved for work on County Road 3. However, council felt that since the 2025 auditor’s report has not been presented yet, and the extended winter has forced overspending on winter maintenance, that holding off additional expenses on road maintenance is prudent.
Through micro surfacing, asphalt pavement roads’ surfaces are treated to restrict moisture from intruding and to protect from raveling, which is when particles dislodge from the aggregate pavement surface, starting with cracks, fine particles and growing to larger chunks. In addition, micro surfacing restores the black appearance to asphalt roads and can add at least eight years to the lifespan of the pavement.
