The Seaway Valley Soccer Club (SVSC) is drawing strong participation at its annual spring indoor training sessions, held at the Benson Centre Field House in Cornwall.
The program serves as a transition between winter training and the outdoor season, offering players a structured environment to build skills and confidence. Head coach Ed Irvine said the sessions run over eight weeks and welcome a wide range of participants. “This is a spring development program focused on skills. We have kids from two to 16 years old taking part,” said Irvine.
Players are grouped by age and ability, with sessions designed to maximize time on the ball. Training focuses on core fundamentals such as dribbling, passing, and control, using a combination of drills and small-sided games.
“We focus on different themes within the game. One session may emphasize dribbling, including ball control and key technical points, with players rotating through stations,” Irvine explained. Demand for the program has been high, with approximately 230 players participating across multiple sessions in a single day. The popularity has also led to wait lists in some age groups due to limited indoor space.
“We’ve reached the point where some groups have wait lists. We’d like to include everyone, but we’re limited by field capacity indoors,” said Irvine. The program attracts a mix of skill levels preparing for the season ahead. “We group players by skill level so they train with their peers, but the program is open to all abilities,” he added.
With outdoor registration now open, Irvine noted that more space will soon be available. “In the summer, we can accommodate more players because we’re outside and not restricted by indoor capacity.”
