The Big Buck Hunter’s Ball drew around 500 hunters, outdoor enthusiasts, sponsors, and community supporters to the Cornwall Civic Complex.
Held in the Ed Lumley Arena, the annual event celebrated the region’s hunting community with raffles, prizes, vendor displays, food, entertainment, and contests tied to the long-running Big Buck Contest. Participants travelled from across Eastern Ontario and Quebec to attend the 31st edition of the event. “It’s an event that people don’t realize how big it is and how much we support local businesses in Cornwall. It just keeps growing each year,” said organizer John Locke. The Big Buck Contest runs during hunting season in November and awards prizes in categories including Heaviest Buck, Heaviest Doe, Unlucky Coyote, Lucky Buck, and a tree stand draw. Locke said local businesses donated prizes and sponsored interactive games throughout the evening. Members of the Cornwall Lions Club also assisted by organizing the event’s 50/50 draw. “The Lions Club’s mandate is eyesight, so we donate money to the hospital for the eye room,” Locke said.
