Members of Cornwall-based LOL Entertainment are celebrating after winning the Battle of Ontario Comedy Show championship in Toronto, earning the title of Best Comedy Team in Ontario.
Patt Cardinal, Matt Johnson, and Joe Bowman, also known as Not Your Average Joe, represented Cornwall in the competition against Team Toronto in a sold-out final held at SoCap Comedy Theatre.
“It was a huge victory for us, a really special moment, and we’re kind of still riding the high,” Bowman said. The Battle of Ontario Comedy Show, organized by Ottawa comedian Jordan Angus, has toured Ontario for the past two-and-a-half years in search of the province’s top comedy team.
Cornwall’s path to the championship included multiple matchups against Ottawa before advancing to the final against Toronto. In the championship round, each comedian performed an eight-minute set, with the audience deciding the winner by crowd vote.
Bowman said Cardinal opened strongly and immediately connected with the audience, while Johnson maintained the momentum with what Bowman described as a “phenomenal set.” Bowman closed the performance with musical comedy, including audience participation and a collaborative finale featuring all three comedians on stage together.
