Graduating students from five Cornwall high schools received important reminders about safety, responsibility, and supporting one another ahead of prom and graduation celebrations.
The Safe Grad/Safe Prom presentations brought together community partners to speak with students from La Citadelle, L’Héritage, Cornwall Collegiate Vocational School, St. Lawrence Secondary School, and St. Joseph’s Catholic Secondary School. Presenters included Cst. Patrick Huygen and Cst. Dan Cloutier of the Cornwall Police Service, Anik Brisbois and Shawna-Lynn Russell of Victim Services S.D.G. & A., Crystal Bigelow from the Assault and Sexual Abuse Program at Cornwall Community Hospital, and Lisa Lapierre from the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario. The sessions focused on consent, substance use, impaired driving, personal safety, and the importance of students looking out for each other while celebrating important milestones. “We felt it was important for community partners to come together as a united front to provide consistent messaging, support, and guidance as they move into this next stage of life,” said Cst. Patrick Huygen.
