The Kinsmen Cornwall Farmers’ Market has opened its season at the St. Lawrence College Cornwall Campus.
Running Sundays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. until late October, the market continues to showcase local farmers, food producers, and artisans. Market Manager and Kinsmen Club of Cornwall Vice-President Neil Benjamin said the market features about 50 vendors, with nearly all coming from Stormont, Dundas, and Glengarry.
“We generate about $2 million in our 22 markets last season,” said Benjamin during the recent official opening. “These are all success stories that have come from the Cornwall Kinsmen Farmers’ Market.”
Senator Bernadette Clement, an honorary member of the Kin family, praised the volunteer effort behind the event.
“Everything I learned about community, everything I learned about volunteering, I learned here,” said Clement.
Mayor Justin Towndale said the market reflects the importance of supporting local.
“The farmers’ market is an opportunity for local producers and local farms to bring their goods to sell here, and I think that’s fantastic,” said Towndale.
MP Eric Duncan, MPP Nolan Quinn, and SDG Counties Warden François Landry also congratulated the Kinsmen Club.
Kinsmen President Matt Ledrew thanked residents for their ongoing support, noting volunteers dedicate hundreds of hours to keeping the market running each year.
