The Seaway Senior Citizens Club showcased local performers at the Just Desserts & Sweet Melodies Gala held recently at the Seaway Valley Theatre Company. The sold-out evening featured Seaway Seniors performing arts groups, along with special guests Therese Motard & The Riverdale Ensemble with guest soprano Olivia Haramis, Steve E & the Pacemakers, Seaway Strings, and the Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps Band (Stormont). Karen Douglas Cooper, project coordinator for Seaway Seniors, said the gala showcased local talent while supporting music programs. “It’s all about celebrating local music and some of our great celebrities, past, present, and future,” said Douglas Cooper. “It’s a fundraiser for both music programs at Seaway Seniors, but also for the Riverdale School of Music, so those students will be able to continue to thrive.” Douglas Cooper said the event showed the community’s appreciation for live entertainment and a truly all ages show. “Live music is important,” she said. “We want to encourage it to continue. It’s bridging an age gap.”
