The region’s unemployment rate has inched up from 4.3 percent in May to 4.7 percent as of June 6, according to Statistics Canada.
The current rate is below the June 2025 rate of 7.1 percent.
The number of job postings in Stormont-Dundas-Glengarry in April totalled 799, a decrease of 4.3 percent from March, according to the Eastern Ontario Training Board.
The number of employment insurance recipients in SDG was 2,280 in March, up by 7 percent from March of 2025.
The median advertised wage was $23.95 per hour.
Health care is the leading employment sector, “powered by Cornwall Community Hospital, Glengarry Memorial Hospital and a cluster of senior-care operators,” the training board says.
In the coming months, the EOTB expects a “stable to modest uptick” in job postings, spurred by employment in manufacturing and tourism.
