The River Institute’s summer fundraiser “Eat, Drink, Discover,” brought around 100 supporters together on Tuesday, August 26, for an evening of local flavours, live music, and freshwater science.
Held on the institute’s scenic grounds along the St. Lawrence River, the event featured live music by Cornwall’s Nick Seguin, pizza from Fraser Creek Farm, and local brews. Attendees explored booths showcasing regional science projects and bid on items in a silent auction.
“This is a great opportunity,” said Dr. Jeff Ridal, Executive Director of the River Institute. “It’s a relaxed atmosphere to bring people together who support us or want to learn more.”
While the event raised funds, Ridal emphasized its deeper purpose: “It’s also just friend-raising. People meet others who care about the river, have conversations, and even share concerns.”
Reflecting on the institute’s riverside transformation, Ridal added, “It shows the functionality of the space. A scientist once said there’s more water passing these windows than in all of Australia’s rivers combined. That reminds us how incredible this resource is.”
