JASON SETNYK
The Historic SDG Jail was positively spellbound on Saturday night as more than 500 visitors explored the first-ever Spirit Fair, a mystical night market organized by Christa Johnson of Chrismystical Market and Star Wellness.
“This is our first time doing an event here, and it was a perfect fit,” said Johnson. “The jail has that eerie energy, and we thought it would be neat to combine it with psychic readings and holistic vendors.”
Held across multiple levels of the 1833-built landmark, the fair featured 27 vendors offering tarot and psychic readings, crystals, jewelry, plant medicine, Wiccan tools, and more. Booths were set up both outside and inside the old jail cells, with even the gym yard transformed into an otherworldly open-air market.
“Most of the vendors are already asking to come back next year,” Johnson shared. “People who came for readings were so eager that many are now booking follow-up appointments.”
Visitors were greeted with free admission and goodie bags for the first 50 through the door. As Johnson put it, “We just wanted to bring some awareness to the jail-and maybe stir the spirits a little.”
