I’m very excited to share that this year the Frontenac Arch Biosphere Network (FABN) is holding its annual Youth Climate Action Summit (YCAS) in Cornwall in partnership with The City, Cornwall’s Youth for Climate Action Working Group and the River Institute. The annual event attracts youth aged 14-18 from across the greater Frontenac Arch Biosphere region in Eastern Ontario.
On Tuesday, November 4, it is estimated that more than 100 youth from more than 10 organizations and secondary schools will gather at the Benson Centre to share ideas, build skills, and strengthen their capacity to lead meaningful climate action in their communities. Participants will be treated to a keynote presentation by Dr. Ojistoh Kanawahere Horn, a Mohawk woman, family physician serving Akwesasne, and board member for the Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment.
In the afternoon, participants can to choose from fourteen unique workshops and panel discussions organized by various organizations including Transition Cornwall+, Eden’s Refuge, Cornerstone Organics, and Poptronics VR.
The City of Cornwall’s Planning and Transportation departments will be leading a workshop. Step and Pedal Forward: Redesigning Active Transportation in Cornwall will encourage students to think like a city planner and technologist by connecting their favourite spots in town using bike lanes and recreational paths. There will also be an opportunity for attendees to tour the Water Purification Plant and learn about hybrid buses and Cornwall’s transit system.
Registration for YCAS closed on October 17; however, if you are interested in knowing more, please contact Victoria Renner, Youth Climate Action Summit Program Manager – victoria@fabn.ca or go to https://ift.tt/H9eL7JC.
