The Cornwall Community Hospital Trauma Program marked World Trauma Day with a fully booked Blood Donation Drive on Thursday, October 16, at the Best Western. In partnership with Canadian Blood Services, the event saw strong participation from CCH staff and first-time donors.
“As a Level III designated trauma centre, we’re often the first line of defence for critically injured patients,” said Katie Renton, Clinical Trauma Coordinator. “Today’s blood drive is one way we give back. Many of the donors here are frontline staff-including myself, donating for the first time.”
Jan Grant, Community Development Manager with Canadian Blood Services, praised the response: “They booked 100 appointments and we’re completely sold out. About 30% are first-time donors, which is amazing. Events like this help reach people we otherwise wouldn’t.”
Dr. Olivier Saleh, Medical Director of the Trauma Program, also donated. “It’s just one way I can help out and support the community,” he said, adding that while major traumas are referred to Ottawa, CCH is equipped to handle the majority of single-system injuries.
