Comic fans of all ages lined up outside Fantasy Realm in downtown Cornwall on Saturday, October 18, for Marvel’s annual Trick or Read event. The popular giveaway brought readers into the store at 227 Pitt Street to pick up free comics-limited to three per person-from a selection of new and classic titles.
“It’s nice to see some people already lined up,” said store owner Randy Sauve before opening. “That happens every year. We hope that we have enough comics to go around.”
This year’s Halloween-themed offerings included Godzilla vs. Fantastic Four #1, X-Men ’97 #1, Venom: Lethal Protector #1, and kid-friendly titles like Spidey and His Amazing Friends #1. Sauve noted the event acts as “Marvel’s way of the halfway point to Free Comic Book Day… It just encourages people of all ages to enjoy comic books, to reading comic books, actually holding comic books.”
While Fantasy Realm isn’t known for markdowns, Sauve said, “We do love to do the giveaways.”
Some visitors even dressed up. “One young lad was in earlier this week said that he was going to be dressing up and coming in on Saturday,” Sauve said. “So that’ll be nice to see too.”
