Communities across Cornwall and Stormont-Dundas-Glengarry will come together on November 11 to honour the men and women who have served and sacrificed in Canada’s Armed Forces. From the city cenotaph in Cornwall to ceremonies in towns and villages across the Counties, residents will pause to remember those who gave their lives for freedom and peace.
Royal Canadian Legion branches throughout SD&G are organizing services, parades, and wreath-laying
ceremonies. Veterans, current service members, first responders, and youth groups will march together in solemn tribute, reminding everyone that remembrance is not just about history-it’s about gratitude and duty today.
In Cornwall, the annual Remembrance Day service at the cenotaph on Second Street West draws hundreds each year. Local schools, cadet corps, and community organizations also hold their own observances to ensure younger generations understand the importance of this day. I am honoured to attend ten local services during Remembrance Week to lay a wreath on behalf of the Government of Canada.
As the clock strikes 11:00 a.m., a moment of silence will fall across the region, marking the armistice
that ended the First World War. In that quiet reflection, the people of Cornwall and SD&G reaffirm a shared promise: We will remember them.
