Kid’s Korner, a beloved downtown Cornwall toy and baby boutique, is celebrating its 40th anniversary this November. Owned by Kevin and Leslie Ouderkirk, the family-run business at 141 Pitt St. has grown from a small children’s furniture store into a two-floor destination offering over 5,000 products.
“It was Dreamland at the time — mostly children’s furniture with a little bit of toys,” recalled Kevin. “We gradually phased into more toys, moved downtown, and the rest is history.”
The shift from furniture to toys was shaped by customer needs. “In the ’80s, the baby boom needed furniture. As they grew, they needed toys and clothing. We followed the market,” said Leslie.
The store has become a generational touchstone. “We raised our kids in the store-they slept in the cribs and ate in the high chairs,” said Leslie. “Now we’re buying for our granddaughter.”
To celebrate the milestone, Kid’s Korner will host a celebration November 30, featuring gift card giveaways, T-shirts, door prizes, and treats. Leslie added, “We have customers whose parents bought cribs here and now they’re buying cribs for their own kids. That just shows how loyal our community is. We couldn’t have done it without them.”
