Despite cold winds and wet snow, hundreds gathered at the Cornwall Cenotaph on November 11 for the city’s annual Remembrance Day ceremony, organized by Royal Canadian Legion Branch 297. The solemn event began with a parade from the Legion to Legion Memorial Park, followed by a service marked by readings, wreath laying, and two minutes of silence at 11 a.m.
The service included remarks by Legion Poppy Chair Mavis Williamson and a moving poem by former Eamer’s Corners student Sophia Kanagasabai, who recited: “From coast to coast, we stand as one / Grateful for bravery for everyone.”
The service began with the pipe band performing ‘O Canada’ and concluded with ‘God Save the King,’ a solemn reminder of the sacrifices made-past and present.
