Two Cornwall athletes made waves at the Concordia University Invitational Wrestling Tournament in Montreal. Nineteen-year-old Munsif Raz earned gold in the 61 kg division, defeating a three-time national champion in a standout performance. Seventeen-year-old Shece Arab, a CCVS student, claimed silver in the 57 kg division, competing against senior university-level wrestlers.
Both athletes train under 1988 Olympian Coach Muhamad Razi at Undefeated MMA in Cornwall. Razi’s Olympic-level coaching has helped elevate their performance and inspire a new generation of local wrestlers.
“It feels great to beat a 3-time national champ in his own tournament,” said Raz. “I’m looking forward to bringing Cornwall’s name to even bigger places. This is just the beginning.”
With their impressive performances against older, more experienced athletes, Munsif Raz and Shece Arab have proven that age is no barrier when paired with discipline and training. Their success at the Concordia Invitational demonstrates the level of competition local athletes are engaging in beyond the regional level.
