The Cornwall Colts head into the holiday break on a two-game losing skid following a 4-2 defeat to the Renfrew Wolves on Saturday and a 4-0 shutout loss to the Kemptville 73’s on Sunday.
Despite an earlier 5-3 home win over Nepean on Thursday, the Colts couldn’t maintain the momentum, ending the week with a 17-16-1 record and 35 points-third in the Yzerman Division behind the dominant first place Rockland Nationals (29-2, 58 points).
Against Renfrew, Brandon Rockwell scored both goals for Cornwall, with Luc Beliveau assisting on each. However, the Wolves capitalized in the third period with two unanswered goals, including the game-winner from Dylan Paron and an empty-net tally by Mikayil Kahriman.
The following night, Kemptville outshot the Colts 48-23 and controlled the pace throughout. Cornwall’s offense was stifled, and goalie Colton Rheaume’s 44 saves weren’t enough to fend off a relentless 73’s attack. Penalty trouble also plagued the Colts, who gave up two power-play goals and went 0-for-7 on the man advantage.
Luc Beliveau continues to lead the Colts in scoring with 32 points in 34 games, while Camden McCuaig and Lyndon Lamb share the team lead in goals with 14 apiece.
The Colts will look to regroup over the break before returning to action January 2 when they face the Brockville Braves at the Brockville Memorial Centre. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
