Close to 200 guests filled the Metcalfe Centre in Maxville to celebrate the holiday season with Glengarry Highland Masonic Lodge #418, raising $71,000 for the Maxville Manor and L’Hôpital Glengarry Memorial Hospital (HGMH.)
The Manor will receive $50,533 and HGMH $21,339.
Organized by Bill Shields, with his amazing group of volunteer helpers and lodge brothers, as well as Kerri Albright, Fundraising Manager for the Manor and Kim Jarencio, Fundraising Coordinator for HGMH) the evening featured Kim Little’s Celtic Choir, piano entertainment by Tristan Des Eiras, and holiday carols led by Rosemary Chatterson.
The Maxville Manor’s Redevelopment Fundraising Initiative currently stands at $10.4 million towards its $11 million goal. Linda Morrow, Foundation Chair for the Manor, thanked the family of supporters who had risen to the challenge of raising the $10.4 million in just three years for the construction project at the Manor.
Mark Adam, HGMH Foundation Chair, spoke of the community’s strong sense of caring for one another.
The hospital is fundraising for a CT scanner which would allow it to provide key, immediate assessment for patients. Since governments do not pay for hospital equipment, the responsibility lies with each facility to fund its own infrastructure. Robert Alldred-Hughes, President and CEO of HGMH, said the lack of a CT scanner creates a barrier that delays diagnosis, treatment and recovery for patients.
The foundation has now reached 43 percent of its fundraising goal
In 2024, the Alexandria hospital launched a fund-raising campaign to raise $3.1 million in three years to buy the computerized tomography scanner.
Proceeds from the evening have been topped up by 33 percent by The Grand Lodge of Ontario through The Masonic Foundation of Ontario.
Glengarry Highland Lodge #418 had previously pledged $25,000 for the Manor, which was topped up by the Masonic Foundation to $33,000.
“Whoever you decide to support, we thank you,” said Bill Shields. “Your donation makes a difference.”
