Ontario’s delayed release of the 2024-25 Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) results offer a snapshot of student achievement in reading, writing, math, and literacy tests but boards in Cornwall and SDG generally scored below the provincial average.
Among English-language boards, primary/junior students provincewide achieved 74.2% in reading, 64.6% in writing, and 63.6% in math. The Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB), which serves many local schools, scored slightly lower: 71.1% in reading, 63.9% in writing, and 61.2% in math. Central Public School in Cornwall significantly underperformed, with just 43.6% meeting the reading standard and only 29.1% in both writing and math. Eamer’s Corner Public School came closer to board averages.
In Grade 9 math, 57.8% of students across Ontario met or exceeded the provincial standard (Levels 3 and 4), compared to 44.9% at the Upper Canada District School Board. At Cornwall Collegiate and Vocational School (CCVS), only 19.2% of students scored at Level 3 or above, while 20.6% fell below Level 2. For the OSSLT literacy test, 85.2% passed provincially, compared to 80.8% at UCDSB, while CCVS had a 71.5% success rate.
The Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario (CDSBEO) also trailed in key areas, with just 55.1% meeting the math standard in primary/junior grades. Bishop Macdonell and Sacred Heart elementary schools had especially low scores, with Bishop Macdonell showing just 25.6% of students meeting the standard in writing and 17.6% in math, while Sacred Heart reported 30.5% in writing and 30.0% in math. At Holy Trinity, 27.9% of students did not pass the literacy test, compared to 17.1% not passing at St. Joseph’s and 14.8% provincewide.
French-language boards outperformed provincial averages. The Conseil des écoles publiques de l’Est de l’Ontario (CEPEO) achieved 80.5% in reading and 76.3% in math. École élémentaire publique Rose des Vents met or exceeded board averages, with 83.3% of students achieving the provincial standard in reading, 60.7% in writing, and 78.6% in math. At École secondaire publique L’Héritage, 95.2% passed the literacy test.
The Conseil scolaire de district catholique de l’Est ontarien (CSDCEO) also performed well, with La Citadelle scoring 91.8% on the literacy test and strong math results at the elementary level, especially at Marie-Tanguay, where 75.6% met the standard.
