In 2025, Cornwall Seaway News marked 40 years since its first issue in 1985, celebrating four decades of community journalism in Cornwall, SDG, and Akwesasne. Founders Rick Shaver and Dick Aubry said the paper was “about connection…It wasn’t just about headlines; it was about heart.” At City Hall, Mayor Justin Towndale presented a certificate recognizing the newspaper, calling it “one of the most reliable news sources in the region today.” He added, “In an age when print media is fading away, the Seaway News is only growing and flourishing.” After Shaver’s retirement in 2024, publisher Richard Mahoney took the helm, and the paper relocated to 132 Second St. E. (4th floor) in downtown Cornwall. The newsroom earned provincial recognition with two OCNA second-place awards: Best Feature Photo (Jason Setnyk) and Cartoonist of the Year (James Lapierre). Locally, Seaway News was honoured with a Media Award from the Royal Canadian Legion. The team also released Cornwall Living, the annual magazine built around a “Made in Cornwall” theme spotlighting local success stories. “Once again, we are able to highlight the best that our community has to offer. I invite everyone to check out the ‘Made in Cornwall’ section, where you can read up on great Canadian products made right here, in our backyard,” said Towndale.
