The shooting deaths of two elderly Cornwall men January 3 were a case of intimate partner violence, says the Cornwall Police Service. At 2:07 p.m., CPS officers were dispatched to a residence in the 400-block of Leitch Drive in response to a reported shooting. Upon arrival, officers located three individuals, all known to one another, who had sustained injuries. The CPS has determined that the 81-year-old resident of the home shot his 80-year-old ex-partner and fatally wounded her 83-year-old male friend before dying from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The woman continues to be treated for serious injuries. The firearm involved was recovered. No further information will be released. “This is a deeply tragic situation,” said Chief of Police Shawna Spowart. “Our thoughts and condolences are with the families and friends of those affected during this very difficult time.”
