L’Amalgame Theatre is back with laughs and mischief this spring as it presents Association de Malfaiteurs, a French-language comedy by Jérôme Lechair. Directed by Pauline Laneville and assisted by Victor Dupuis, the play will be performed at the Seaway Valley Theatre (30 Sixth Street East, Cornwall) on March 20 and 27 at 7:00 p.m., and March 21, 22, 28, and 29 at 2 p.m.
The story centres on a financially struggling couple who decide to rob a bank. But what begins as a simple plan quickly unravels when a group of opportunists-including an ambitious politician and a journalist with a grudge-seize the moment to manipulate the chaos for their own benefit.
The cast features Gabrielle Dignard, Victor Dupuis, Ginette Girard, Marie-Claude Lepage, Anne-Marie Paquette, Alain St Arnaud, Danielle Brouillet, Sylvie Belhumeur, and Stefani-Claire Bruneau. For Dignard, who plays Alice, a bank employee, this production has been especially rewarding.
“It’s always a pleasure for me to participate in a project with L’Amalgame,” said Dignard. “As part of the ‘next generation’ of artists, I find it important to invest myself and try to find others who can help French theatre continue to thrive. This current production gives me the opportunity to explore physical comedy, which has been a real delight.”
Behind the scenes, the production is led by veteran producer Mario Gagnon.
“I feel incredibly privileged to produce Association de Malfaiteurs, L’Amalgame’s 14th major production since 2006,” said Gagnon. “Working alongside such talented actors, under the direction of Pauline Laneville and with the assistance of Victor Dupuis, has been a true honour. We’re excited to return to the beautiful Seaway Valley Theatre.”
Tickets are $25 plus fees. For more information, email info@lamalgamedesarts.ca
