As part of the Fire Protection Grant, the Ontario Ministry of the Solicitor General, Office of the Fire Marshall has awarded North Glengarry Fire Services over $52,821 for the purchase of 10 additional bunker gear sets for firefighters.
Chief Matthew Roy already established on scene decontamination standards, where bunker gear is bagged, then taken to be cleaned of all contaminants before being put back into use. Gear goes through an advanced cleaning and inspection twice a year. The provincial grant permits the purchase of spare equipment, which includes turnout coats and pants, boots, helmets, gloves and face protection. The additional gear guarantees there is enough clean equipment ready for any emergency response. The investment is part of $20 million being distributed to all fire services across the province. The grants are to be used for the purchase of critical equipment to enhance fire defence in all communities.
