The Editor,
I don’t often comment on political things, but today I can’t remain silent. As Canada deliberates on sending boots on the ground in Greenland, I am saddened, no, disgusted to read the comments in the margins, saying that we have nothing to bring, except perhaps coffee and donuts.
People who have never laced up a pair of boots, or worn the green combat uniform proudly with a Canadian flag on their shoulders are disrespecting our Armed Forces. They are forgetting, or ignorant, of our reputation, of the work we have done, that has earned us the respect of others, our history.
As a retired member of the Canadian Armed Forces, I know that we might have shown up with less, humbly, but with heart. We stood shoulder to shoulder to defend people we didn’t know, only because it was the right thing to do and we didn’t show up late!
I am an old woman, but I would proudly put on a uniform again and stand on the line, against any bully because it is the right thing to do.
Because history has shown us what ignoring the bully can lead to.
