Glengarry District High School (GDHS) and the Township of North Glengarry plan to enter a partnership to share the tennis courts located on the school property. The agreement to use the facilities at the high school is through the Upper Canada District School Board and will help to fill the gap left from the courts at Island Park that are in need of repairs, with only one court having opened in 2025. The condition of the courts at Island Park will be assessed once the snow has finally melted away.
There are four GDHS courts which will be resurfaced through a $10,000 investment from the Township of North Glengarry. Stephanie MacRae, Director of Community Services for the Township, said the courts were originally built through government gaming funding and were meant to be community courts. The public will be able to access the courts outside of school hours, approximately from 3 p.m. to dusk. Since there are currently no lights to illuminate the courts, play will have to end when nighttime sets in. GDHS will continue to maintain the courts; however, any major needed repairs will be shared with the school and the township.
