Members of the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service and several partner agencies executed two Criminal Code search warrants April 29, as part of a human smuggling investigation linked to a southbound crossing operation.
The coordinated operation began at around 6:10 a.m. and involved the Akwesasne Organized Crime Unit, AMPS Uniform Patrol, the SAVE Unit, the Ontario Provincial Police Border Enforcement Security Team, the Sûreté du Québec BEST, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and the Canada Border Services Agency.
At a residence in Tsi Snaihne, Quebec, three individuals were arrested. Two were wanted on unrelated criminal warrants, while another was arrested on a Recognizance to Keep the Peace related to conspiracy to violate U.S. immigration laws. Officers seized a Taser, pistol magazine, Rolex watch, four cellphones, and documents.
At a second location in Kawehno:ke on Cornwall Island, two more individuals were arrested. One was wanted on unrelated warrants and held on an immigration matter, while another faced a peace bond related to conspiracy to violate U.S. immigration laws. Additional documents and a cellphone were seized.
AMPS said both warrants were executed without incident. Two individuals were later released unconditionally pending further investigation, including a parallel investigation in the United States.
