Seaway Valley Theatre Company will bring laughter to the stage this spring with Ken Ludwig’s A Fox on the Fairway, a fast-paced comedy running from May 22 to June 7 at the Seaway Valley Theatre in Cornwall.
Directed by Cathy Durham and produced by Lise Richer, the play follows the chaos surrounding a high-stakes golf tournament between rival country clubs. Durham said Ludwig’s farces appeals to both directors and audiences with comedy and pacing. “He writes a great farce. They are very funny, they’re tight comical timing, it’s wonderful, and the audiences are usually so happy to see this kind of entertainment in Cornwall,” said Durham. Despite the golf setting, Durham noted the comedy is more about relationships and human nature than the sport itself. “You don’t have to know anything about golf to appreciate the show,” she said. “It’s basically a feel-good comedy.” The production stars Paul Aubin as Henry Bingham, Mike Chatelaine as Justin Hicks, Tina Merizzi as Louise Heindbedder, Rebecca Sorrell as Pamela Peabody, Alex Merizzi as Dickie Bell, and Carla Pearson as Muriel Bingham. Durham praised the cast’s chemistry and dedication throughout rehearsals. “They have a great relationship amongst themselves, and I really love to see that happen,” she said. “I really feel a great sense of pride in seeing what they’ve accomplished.”
Performances are Thursdays through Saturdays at 7:30 p.m., with Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. There are special dessert and dinner theatre options available on May 29. Tickets can be reserved online at Ticket Wicket or by phone at 613-933-3998.
