The Cornwall Wildcats opened their 17th U18 Ontario Summer Football League AAA season with a 34-14 victory over the Brampton Bulldogs May 16 at Joe St. Denis Field. The Wildcats got off to a strong start with a long rushing touchdown from second-year running back Hunter Holmes. Holmes led the offence with 195 rushing yards on 12 carries and scored twice in the win. Kohlman McIntyre paced the receiving corps with 91 yards and a touchdown reception. Special teams also played a key role, including a 125-yard punt return touchdown from Logan O’Hagan. First-year Wildcat Abbas Gedeon added a field goal and was perfect on point-after attempts. Linebacker Lucas McGuire led the team with 3.5 tackles, while Marc Labossiere recorded 2.5 tackles. Defensive lineman Ryan Jaquemet was also recognized for his disruptive play throughout the game. “Saturday’s win was a true testament to our collective mission,” said head coach Alex Labonte. “It was a full team effort, with every player stepping up and showing no selfishness. We fought until the final whistle, and that determination is what brought us the victory. I’m incredibly proud of this team!”
