Our government is starting the new year off with continued momentum as we build on our plan to protect Ontario and support our local communities. Here in SDG, that momentum is already evident through new investments and meaningful engagements as we enter the year ahead and approach our government’s 2026 budget.
In January, I was pleased to be in Cornwall to announce over $385,000 that our government is investing in our municipal fire departments across SDG. Through the Fire Protection Grant, this funding will support departments as they purchase equipment and supplies while bolstering important infrastructure upgrades. We know our firefighters face evolving risks on the job, and this investment ensures they have the modern equipment and resources needed to stay safe while protecting our families and neighbourhoods.
As we approach our government’s budget season, I heard directly from SDG’s business leaders, non-profits, municipal representatives, and community partners in Cornwall for our government’s pre-budget consultations. These consultations, along with the countless conversations I’ve had with community members at my office, at events, and business visits are critical to ensuring local feedback is included in the budget drafting process. I want to sincerely thank everyone who took the time to participate and share their insights as we work to strengthen our economy, community services, infrastructure, and more.
As we look ahead to the rest of 2026, I’m encouraged by the level of collaboration and engagement we continue to see across our region. Our government will continue to build on our successes of last year, strengthen our communities and ensure both SDG and Ontario remains a safe, prosperous place to live, work, and raise a family.
