Maxville Manor has announced that the long-term care facility has reached its $11 million fund-raising goal to fund the local share of its redevelopment project.
The $73 million redevelopment project which kicked off in June will be completed over several years in four phases expanding the home from 122 to 160 long-term care beds. The Ontario government is covering 85 per cent of the expansion, which is scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2029.
It is an incredible success story for the community.
Residents of North Glengarry and surrounding townships supported the drive with much needed donations and enthusiastic participation in the many creative, diverse fundraising events that have been held.
Under the banner of “Manor Friends Who Care,” these events included Catch the Ace through the Kin Club of Russell, Eric Metcalfe agreeing to be roasted by long-time friends in front of the whole community and the 50/50 draw at the Glengarry Highland Games where Ken Blair donated all his winnings to the Manor.
The Kenyon Agricultural Society matched donations raised, and local families donated funds in loving memory of family or friends who have called the Maxville Manor’s community home.
Farmers contributed through “Farmers Who Care” and Glengarry Highland Lodge worked diligently to raise funds through dinners and events, that were then matched by the Masonic Foundation of Ontario.
The $11 million accomplishment would not have been possible without the MacEwen Family who donated $1 million, matched donations by other groups and topped up amounts to help meet the community’s goal.
Jim MacEwen and North Glengarry Mayor Jamie MacDonald have been co-chairs and spearheaded the fundraising campaign.
SDG Counties pledged $4 million to the Manor.
