Cornwall’s own Roy “Nip” Nichol is preparing for a major homecoming of sorts, as April Wine joins Triumph on their highly anticipated 2026 North American tour. The veteran drummer and backing vocalist will take the stage at Ottawa’s Canadian Tire Centre on May 2, a highlight of the spring arena tour that reunites two of Canada’s most legendary rock bands.
Nichol, who joined April Wine in 2012, says the Ottawa show will be extra special. “I’m really looking forward to this tour with Triumph,” he said. “After doing an extensive European tour, it will be nice to be closer to home with the U.S. and Canada dates. Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa will be extra special as most of my family and friends will be there.”
April Wine’s current lineup includes Brian Greenway, Richard Lanthier, Marc Parent, and Roy Nichol. Their catalogue spans over five decades and includes hits like “Roller,” “Sign of the Gypsy Queen,” “I Like to Rock,” and “Just Between You and Me.” They were inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame (2010) and Canada’s Walk of Fame (2023).
The tour, produced by Live Nation, celebrates Triumph’s 50th anniversary and features stops in major cities across Canada and the U.S. It kicks off April 22 in Sault Ste. Marie and wraps on June 6 in Boston. Triumph’s return to the road follows a 2025 tribute album and their induction into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame. Triumph, which formed in 1975, is known for its powerful blend of hard rock and progressive elements, soaring vocals, and high-energy arena shows.
April Wine last performed in Cornwall on October 18, 2024, at Aultsville Theatre, where Nichol’s high-energy performance drew a standing ovation. Outside of touring, he’s also known for his studio work as an engineer and producer. Tickets for all dates, including the May 2 Ottawa show, are available now via Live Nation. One dollar from every ticket sold will benefit SoundsUnite, a nonprofit supporting music and wellness.
